Where to get married in the Dominican Republic

Yes, indeed, where? As a wedding planner, this question is constantly going through my mind. As the Dominicans always love to say: Dominican Republic has it all. You will come across these words over and over again, not only and exclusively on our blog.

Let’s start with the dream of many brides: A gorgeous wedding at the beach. To me too, it’s always something incredibly beautiful. Let me tell you a little bit more about the different locations you can choose for your destination wedding in the Dominican Republic.

Puerto Plata: the silver port. The area where most German-speaking emigrants have settled. Beautiful beaches on the Atlantic coast, located on the north of the Dominican Republic. A paradise for everyone that loves water sports or the ocean itself. You might be asking yourself, what does this have to do with my dream wedding? Let me explain.

Water sports require wind. The Atlantic Ocean has plenty of it to offer! For us as your wedding planner, that means convincing the bride to choose a wind-proof hairstyle and making sure flowers and decorations will not be blown away. Sometimes I wish I could just glue them onto something. But of course I am incredibly grateful for all the experiences we had, and what I have learned through out the past. Necessity is the mother of invention – as the proverb says. “Can’t” doesn’t exist for us wedding planners. So if you would like to get married at the beaches of the versatile north coast, please do so, we will take care and make sure everything stays where it belongs – “Let’s get married”.

An amazing insider tip is the Samana peninsula at the northeast coast of Hispaniola island. White, sandy and lonely beaches along turquoise waters, surrounded with natural palm trees, will make your heart beat faster. Whether Las Terrenas, Las Galeras or Samana City, there are several magnificent dream beaches all over the peninsula. And the big advantage: the peninsula of Samana is a great spot to spend your honeymoon after tying the knot on one of these pristine beaches, far away from mass tourism.

One of the most popular requests: getting married in Punta Cana. Punta Cana is one of the places in the Dominican Republic that offer high quality hotel options. An all-round carefree package. With the airport right around the corner, you can indulge in everything your heart desires. Because of the hotel offers there are endless possibilities for hotel weddings and special wedding locations (Jellyfish, Kukua Beach Club and so on) in Punta Cana. But always keep in mind: when choosing an all inclusive hotel wedding location: this also means you will have less privacy. But Punta Cana also offers secluded beach areas like Cabeza de Toro. About an hour drive away you will find Playa El Limon and Playa Esmeralda. Where extensive sandy beaches and green nature combined with a Caribbean breeze are waiting for you.

Even more secret than an insider tip is the southwest of the Dominican Republic. Only a few tourists get lost here: Bahia de las Aguilas. Never heard of it? This incredibly white dream beach in the Jaragua National Park is considered the most beautiful one in the Dominican Republic. Enjoy the Caribbean Sea in the most spectacular colors your eyes have ever seen. You want to spend your wedding night directly on the beach or in a tree house? Everything is possible here. Many excursion options, such as a visit of Lago Enriquillo or a boat trip to Laguna de Oviedo are something you should not miss during your honeymoon in this area (check out accommodation options such as Eco del Mar – Natural Lodge or Glamping Ecologe for example.

Let’s have a closer look now on the north of the island. We’ll start with Monte Cristi, a small, sleepy port town surrounded by wild and breathtaking landscapes. Salt flats, rice plantations, huge cactus or banana plants as far as your eyes can see. Freshwater lagoons and mangrove forests with a Mediterranean flair. In our opinion, a perfect spot to say “I do” and make a step into a married life together with your partner.

About 67 km east of Monte Cristi you will find the beautiful white sandy beach of Punta Rucia. Here, too, you can enjoy turquoise waters with a view of the mountains that will take your breath away. A small, peaceful beach with little tourism and a Caribbean landscape you would most likely only find on pictures.

There are supposed to be people who don’t necessarily want to get married on a Caribbean beach.. Are you one of those couples? Of course, we also have some awesome options for you! Remember? Dominican Republic has it all.

Santo Domingo: A city with a very interesting and important history – the first city of the “new world”. Plan a discovery trip through the Colonial Zone! Santo Domingo offers many beautiful outdoor venues. Are you dreaming of a ceremony on top of one of those old buildings? Nothing seems impossible in Santo Domingo. Great places to eat out or have a delicious drink. Note: the prices of this metropolitan city fit clients with higher budgets. This should be taken into consideration. But it´s worth it! “Let’s get married” 😉

What kind of a wedding planner would I be, if I didn’t recommend the picturesque mountain villages of Jarabacoa and Constanza to you. Surrounded by refreshing rivers, waterfalls and freshwater pools, green landscapes, pine forests and coffee plantations, you will find everything you need for a relaxing time far away from the beach. It’s kind of difficult to choose between the small rustic ranchos and the high end luxury villas!
And last but not least, of course you will also find wonderful locations to get married. Top your wedding pictures with the view onto the highest mountain of the Caribbean: Pico Duarte. For the brave ones among you, there are river rafting or canyoning excursions available. An absolute plus for those who suffer from the Caribbean heat: with over 500 and 1200 meters above sea level (about 1640 and 3940 feet), Jarabacoa and Costanza impress with pleasant temperatures. For us definitely a “thumbs up”! Have a look at the small video we created for you during our trip to Costanza: YouTube

Often forgotten but not less beautiful: Santiago de los Caballeros. The second biggest city in the country, located directly in the Cibao Valley. Santiago known as “Cuidad Corazon” (Heartland City). A modern metropolis with many attractions to discover. Check out this incredible location: Camp David.

Honestly, I could go on writing forever and ever… There are so many amazing spots in the Dominican Republic that are just perfect to get married. So before completely losing myself and forgetting to plan your dream weddings instead – I will stop here… feel free to add your comment below or contact us directly, if you have questions about those or any other location in DR. We will be happy to help (and glad you are the ones to choose between all these awesome places haha)

So therefore, don’t forget: Dominican Republic has it all – including to get married 😉 Hasta pronto amigos!

Love, Anni
